School of Cinema in Campus: The Green School Bangalore (TGSB), one of India’s first zero waste schools, put up a unique musical extravaganza on their Annual Day today.
While the musical dance drama titled “Three tales with a twist” was set on a fusion of three beloved stories of “Mary Poppins”, “The Wizard of Oz” and “Fiddler on the Roof”, what was unique was the sustainable sets created by the students and faculty of the school.
“The innovative and important idea used by us to lessen the environmental effect of performances is sustainable set design, which makes use of materials like bamboo and repurposed wood. The Broadway production is paving the way for a more sustainable future by adopting eco-friendly techniques. The production is a brilliant example of how creativity and environment consciousness can co-exist peacefully in the performing arts industry,” explains Usha Iyer, Principal and Director, The Green School Bangalore (TGSB).
Directed by Dr Ashley Joseph William, a director of international repute, the musical extravaganza centered around Tevye and his Anatevka-born daughters when they meet Mary Poppins and Dorothy from Kansas by chance. Together, the characters take on the Wicked Witch of the West and aid one another in overcoming obstacles.
