Fly Ash Management: A review meeting was held today at Lok Seva Bhavan under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Empowerment and Energy Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo. Minister for Revenue & Disaster Management Shri Suresh Pujari, Principal Secretary Energy Dept. Shri Vishal Dev, Collector Jharsuguda Smt. Aboli Sunil Naravane and senior officals from OPGC were present in the meeting.
Odisha Power Generation Corporation Limited is Odisha’s largest Thermal power plant. OPGC is a key player in the energy landscape of the state, catering to over 30% of the state’s load demand. OPGC is committed to producing world-class clean, safe and reliable power. Waste management after thermal power generation and filling up of the void mines with fly ash has been discussed in the meeting.
Deputy Chief Minister suggested making inter-locking bricks using fly ash out of the ash collected from OPGC. The inter-locking bricks can later be used in houses built under the PM- AWAS Yojana. The reason of bottlenecks of OPGC has been discussed.
Similarly, as per the recommendations of the Pollution Control Board, the ash utilization can also be used in agriculture fields according to the nutritional content. Subsequently, steps will be taken on them as per the guidelines provided by the Central Government. SOP will be brought about fly ash management in the near future said by Deputy CM Shri SinghDeo.
In this sequence, identification of void mines would be done and filling that with OPGC fly ash can reduce the pollution level and wastages. It was also discussed to provide land for Ash Ponds. Shri Pujari advised Jharsuguda Collector to discuss with the people living in that habitat before allocation of lands. OPGC is also giving importance to remove the bottlenecks and challenges of fly ash management.
