Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (Overseas Indian Day) event has commenced at the Janata Maidan in Bhubaneswar, with the Youth Convention marking its start. The event was inaugurated by the Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, S. Jaishankar, and Odisha Chief Minister, Mohan Majhi. The Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, also participated in the ceremony.

Tomorrow, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally inaugurate the conference. He is expected to arrive in Bhubaneswar this evening.

In his speech, Union Minister Jaishankar emphasized India’s growth towards becoming a developed nation, highlighting the success of initiatives like the production of COVID vaccines and the Chandrayaan-3 space mission. He also pointed out that transformative government schemes like Clean India, Housing, and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao have greatly impacted people’s lives.

Chief Minister Mohan Majhi welcomed the overseas Indians, mentioning the culture and heritage of Odisha. He highlighted Odisha’s growth in IT, skill development, technology, renewable energy, education, and tourism, inviting everyone to explore the state’s potential, including its famous landmarks such as the Konark Sun Temple and Puri Jagannath Temple.

Mansukh Mandaviya, addressing the gathering, called on overseas Indians to contribute towards the country\’s development and encouraged youth participation in shaping the future of a developed India.

The event is attended by over 70 nations, with prominent members of the diaspora participating in various sessions, including discussions with key figures in the country. Cultural programs will be organized every evening, and over 21 tourist spots in Odisha, including the famous Puri and Bhubaneswar temples, will be showcased.
