RG Kar Medical College Murder: A Kolkata court is set to deliver the sentence for Sanjay Roy, convicted of raping and murdering a female doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The incident occurred on August 9, 2024, when the victim, a postgraduate trainee, was assaulted and killed in a seminar hall at the hospital.
Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer, was arrested the following day and has been found guilty of the heinous crime. The prosecution has called for the death penalty.
The Additional District and Sessions Judge of Sealdah Court will announce the sentencing today. Roy faces charges that carry a minimum sentence of life imprisonment, with the possibility of the death penalty as the maximum punishment.
