Budget 2025: Today, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present the Budget 2025. Before the presentation, the Finance Minister and her officials visited the President. During the meeting, President Droupadi Murmu extended her heartfelt wishes and offered curd and sugar to Sitharaman.
Traditionally, before embarking on any auspicious task, the elder women of a household offer curd and sugar as a ritual. It is believed that consuming curd and sugar before an important event brings success and good fortune. Curd symbolizes purity, while sugar represents sweetness. Similarly, elders often give curd and sugar to children before they leave for their exams as a gesture of blessing.
Following this tradition, before Sitharaman presented the budget in Parliament, the President offered her curd and sugar as a token of good luck. A photo of the moment, where Sitharaman was offered curd, was also shared by the President on social media. Notably, this ritual was also performed last year when the President had offered curd to the Finance Minister before the budget presentation.
