Ukraine Proposes Ceasefire: Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, declared that his country is ready to unconditionally advance a ceasefire proposal, aiming for a just and lasting peace. He spoke at the Ukraine-India meeting held in Mumbai.
Sybiha highlighted Ukraine’s vast potential and the pivotal role India will play in its future. Strengthening bilateral ties, he noted, would unlock significant economic opportunities for both nations, fostering mutual growth in various sectors. He said, “Historically, Ukraine and India had really close ties, and we are ready to develop our bilateral relations. Your role of India is very important once again in this peace process, and we do really hope to boost our bilateral relations to open here, in such an important center, Mumbai, our general consulate. It is a very strong signal.”
The event also marked the inauguration of the Consulate General of Ukraine in Mumbai. Among the dignitaries attending were Maharashtra Minister Jaykumar Rawal and Dr. Oleksandr Polishchuk, Ambassador of Ukraine to India, alongside other notable figures. Sybiha further emphasized, “It is also a strong confirmation how important India is not only for Ukraine, but globally.”
Speaking about the importance of the Black Sea, Sybiha emphasized restoring freedom of navigation, a crucial aspect tied to the ceasefire proposal, which could boost trade between Ukraine and India. He also revealed the staggering $600 billion damage to Ukraine’s infrastructure due to the ongoing war, presenting a significant opportunity for global cooperation, especially from India, in the country’s reconstruction efforts.
