Maldives’ 60th Independence Day: On the second day of his official visit to the Maldives, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the country’s 60th Independence Day celebrations in Male today as the ‘Guest of Honour’. The visit comes at the special invitation of President Mohamed Muizzu.

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to hold a series of high-level meetings during the day. He will meet Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef and Speaker of the Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla to discuss ongoing cooperation and regional issues of mutual interest.

Later, the Prime Minister is expected to interact with members of the Indian diaspora living in the Maldives. Strengthening people-to-people ties and enhancing cultural exchange are key elements of the bilateral agenda.

In the evening, Prime Minister Modi will participate in the official ceremony marking six decades of Maldivian independence from British rule. He will attend the event as the chief guest, underscoring the deep-rooted ties between the two nations.

Before concluding his visit, the Prime Minister will be accorded a ceremonial farewell. A Guard of Honour will be presented to him at the Male airport, following which he will depart for India, completing his two-nation diplomatic tour.

Earlier On Friday, Prime Minister Modi attended a state banquet hosted in his honour by President Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed. During the occasion, he conveyed his appreciation for the warm hospitality and extended greetings to the Maldivian people on their Independence Day.

President Muizzu congratulated Prime Minister Modi on becoming the second longest-serving Prime Minister of India. He praised Modi’s leadership and reiterated the strength of India-Maldives relations, calling India the Maldives’ closest and most reliable development partner.

The Maldivian President highlighted the breadth of cooperation between the two countries, spanning security, healthcare, education, infrastructure, and trade. He emphasized that the partnership continues to bring tangible benefits to citizens on both sides. ( SHABD)
