Bilateral Talks in Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today held bilateral talks with Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam in Varanasi, further strengthening the historic ties between the two nations.

PM Ramgoolam, who arrived in the spiritual city yesterday, was accorded a warm welcome by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel. Addressing a joint press briefing, Prime Minister Modi described India and Mauritius as “two nations with one dream,” underlining that the relationship between the two countries goes beyond partnership to that of family.

Highlighting key areas of cooperation, Modi announced that the first Jan Aushadhi Kendra outside India has been set up in Mauritius, expanding access to affordable medicines. He also stressed energy security as a critical pillar of the bilateral partnership and welcomed academic collaborations, including new agreements signed by IIT Madras and the Indian Institute of Plantation Management with the University of Mauritius.

The talks saw the exchange of four MoUs in science & technology, oceanography, administrative training and telemetry. In addition, three agreements were signed covering cooperation in the power sector, Indian grant assistance for small development projects, and hydrography.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to civilizational connect, spiritual bonds, and strong people-to-people ties. PM Ramgoolam is on a week-long state visit to India from September 9 to 16, 2025.
