PM Modi Unveils: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today virtually inaugurated and laid foundation stones for development projects worth over ₹9,000 crore in Mizoram, covering Railways, Roadways, Energy, and Sports. The biggest highlight was the launch of the Bairabi–Sairang New Rail Line, built at a cost of over ₹8,000 crore, which connects Mizoram’s capital Aizawl to the Indian Railways network for the first time.
Calling it a historic day for Mizoram, the Prime Minister said the project will transform travel, trade and employment in the State. “For the first time, Sairang will be directly connected with Delhi by Rajdhani Express. Farmers and businesses will now reach bigger markets across India,” Shri Modi said.
With the inauguration, Aizawl becomes the fourth northeastern capital city—after Guwahati, Agartala, and Itanagar—to be connected by rail. The Prime Minister also flagged off three new train services: Sairang–Delhi Rajdhani Express, Sairang–Guwahati Express and Sairang–Kolkata Express.
The 51-km-long Bairabi–Sairang rail line involved 45 tunnels and 55 major bridges, making it one of the most challenging projects in the region. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said cargo operations will also begin this week, cutting costs of cement and steel, while boosting tourism and jobs.
Shri Modi also laid the foundation of the Chhimtuipui River Bridge on the Lawngtlai–Siaha Road, expected to provide all-weather connectivity and reduce travel time by two hours.
The Prime Minister highlighted the government’s development push in the North East over the past 11 years, stressing improved road, internet, electricity and LPG access. He said Mizoram has a key role in the Act East Policy and North East Economic Corridor.
