PM Modi In Assam: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today laid the foundation stone and inaugurated development projects worth around ₹6,500 crore in Assam’s Darrang district. Addressing a public rally, he congratulated the people of Assam, calling it a historic day in the state’s development journey.
The Prime Minister said that following the success of Operation Sindoor, he felt spiritually fulfilled to visit Assam and extended greetings on the occasion of Janmashtami. Highlighting Mangaldoi’s cultural and historical significance, he stressed that Assam is emerging as one of India’s fastest-growing states with a growth rate of nearly 13 percent.
Mr. Modi inaugurated Darrang Medical College and Hospital, new highways, and the Guwahati Ring Road project, while also laying the foundation stone of the Kurua–Narengi bridge over the Brahmaputra, which will ease connectivity between Guwahati and Darrang. He underlined the government’s focus on connectivity, healthcare, and infrastructure, calling Assam a future growth engine of India.
The Prime Minister also announced upcoming GST reforms to reduce the cost of essential items, medicines, vehicles, and insurance, set to take effect from Navratri. He urged citizens to be “vocal for local” and support indigenous products.
On infiltration, Mr. Modi alleged that opposition parties promoted illegal encroachments in Assam but affirmed that his government is committed to protecting farmers, youth, and tribal communities. He announced a nationwide Demography Mission to counter infiltration threats.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, and other dignitaries were present at the event.
