Bihar Assembly Polls: India’s eastern state of Bihar is witnessing voting for the first phase of polling across 121 constituencies in its 243-member assembly. According to early reports, around 13.39 percent voter turnout was recorded till 9:00 AM IST. Nearly 3.75 crore voters are participating in this phase, deciding the fate of 1,314 candidates across 18 districts.
This election’s central themes are unemployment, outmigration, corruption, and the decline of education and healthcare—issues that dominate the public discourse in the state.
Thursday’s polling will determine the prospects of several high-profile candidates, including RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, BJP leaders Samrat Choudhary and Mangal Pandey, and JD(U)’s Shravan Kumar and Vijay Kumar Choudhary. Tej Pratap Yadav, who has floated his own party, is also contesting from the Mahua seat.
Voting for the second phase will be held on November 11, and counting of votes is scheduled for November 14.
