Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday invited ‘Chowkidars’ to be part of his ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign later in the day.
“There are lakhs of Chowkidars in every part of India. Here is where you can join a MainBhiChowkidar programme nearest to your place of stay. See you this evening,” Prime Minister tweeted giving the link of his website ‘narendramodi.in’.
Top BJP leaders including party chief Amit Shah, Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj and Smriti Irani will take part in Prime Minister’s ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ campaign via video-conferencing in Delhi.
“….PM Narendra Modi ji will interact with Chowkidars from over 500 locations across the country.
I too will join Main Bhi Chowkidar programme from Kolar in Karnataka,” Union Minister Smriti Irani wrote in the micro blogging site.
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Sunday responded to a tweet and wrote – “Rest assured – it’s me, not my ghost”.
On Saturday evening, she had tweeted justifying her decision to ‘change’ the name of her Twitter handle to ‘Chowkidar Sushma Swaraj’ in endorsement of her other colleagues and Prime Minister himself leading the campaign.
One tweet had asked Ms Swaraj – “Mam, we thought you were our Foreign Minister. The only one most sensible in BJP. Why do you call yourself Chowkidar”.
She responded: “Because I am doing Chowkidari of Indian interests and Indian nationals abroad”.
Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari said over 4,000 people, including party workers, will listen to the prime minister’s address at Talkatora Stadium on Sunday evening around 1700 hours.
Virtually kick-starting BJP’s campaign in the capital – where BJP won all seven seats in 2014 –
BJP president Amit Shah will join one such gathering at in Chandni Chowk constituency. Home Minister Rajnath Singh will join the event at Ganesh Chowk in East Delhi, while Sushma Swaraj will be present at Uttam Nagar.
The event will be beamed across the country at 500 places and will be joined by several BJP leaders and professionals including chowkidars.
