A day after Congress president accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of ‘humiliating’ BJP patriarch L K Advani, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Saturday hit back at Rahul Gandhi saying he should maintain “some decorum” in his speech.

“Rahulji, Advani ji is our father figure. Your words have hurt us deeply. Please try to maintain some decorum of your speech,” Ms Swaraj tweeted.

In his speech at Chandrapur in Maharashtra, Mr Gandhi has said, ‘Narendra Modi is talking of Hinduism, but look at what he has done to his own guru L K Advani. He not only insulted Mr Advani but also thrashed him with shoes and shooed him away from the BJP stage. Is this what the Hindu religion teaches?”

Mr Advani has been replaced by BJP president Amit Shah as party’s Gandhinagar candidate this year.

The 91-year-old BJP patriarch in his latest blog on Thursday made veiled attack on the state of affairs and said that BJP never regarded those who disagree with it politically as its enemies, but only as adversaries.

It is worth mentioning that Prime Minister also tweeted and that he respected Mr Advani’s views.

“Advani Ji perfectly sums up the true essence of BJP, most notably the guiding Mantra of ‘Nation First, Party Next, Self Last.’ Proud to be a BJP Karyakarta and proud that greats like L K Advani Ji have strengthened it”, Mr Modi tweeted.

Mr Advani, who for years mentored Mr Modi and also stonewalled against all criticism after 2002 Gujarat mayhem, was however not happy in 2013 when the BJP decided to make Mr Modi the Prime Ministerial face of the party. (UNI)
