Pointing to the Supreme Court order that all political parties must disclose the details of funds receiving by way of Electoral Bond, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Friday said that the apex court demolished the stance taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and the BJP.
In a series of tweets, Mr Yechury said, that after the Supreme Court order, “Donors of black money via this route (EBs) will be scared to fund from here on”.
The CPI(M) was one of the petitioners along with NGO, Common Cause and Association for Democratic Reforms(ADR) in this case.
“Anonymity pushed by BJP is on the way out. Donors of black money via this route will be scared to fund from here on. Today Election Commission has the data. Tomorrow the public will also have it”, he tweeted.
Referring to the Supreme Court order that transparency is the basic principle of electoral funding, Mr Yechury said that people have a right to know which party received how much funds and from whom.
“Supreme Court demolishes stance taken by Modi, Jaitley and BJP – which had pushed this as a Money bill, for opaque, secret Electoral bonds”, he said.
Earlier in the day, while declining to stay the Electoral Bond scheme in the wake of the 2019 Lok Sabha election, the apex court asked all political parties to furnish the funding details through EBs to the Election Commission before May 30.
The Attorney General had defended the scheme by arguing that it would help eradicate black money as the fund is routed through banking channel only
