The stage has been set for the polling to the lone Lok Sabha seat and Thattanchavady assembly constituency by-election from this union territory of Puducherry on Thursday.
Polling will commence at 0700 hours (local time) and ends at 1800.
As many as 9,73,410 voters in the Lok Sabha and 29,329 in the Thattanchavady assembly constituency would exercise their franchise in tomorrow’s election to decide the electoral fortune of 18 candidates for the Lok Sabha and eight in Thattanchavady assembly constituency.There are 31,905 first time voters in the union territory.
The main fight will be between V Vaithilingam, the congress candidate in the alliance and Narayanasamy, the N R Congress candidate in the NDA alliance for the parliament elections and between Nedumcheziyan of the N R congress and Venkatesan of the DMK in UPA alliance.
Two ballot units would be used for the parliament election here as there are 18 candidates plus NOTA. Two polling compartments would be arranged in the Thattanchavady constituency and the voters will cast two votes.
Of the 970 polling booths in the UT, 222 were identified as vulnerable and 25 among them as critical.100 vulnerable polling booth will have internet cameras besides web cameras so as to monitor critical events in and around the booths. Seven polling booths will be manned exclusively by women officers.
As many as 1,850 personnel of the Puducherry police force besides ten companies of para-military force is being deployed for security during the elections.(UNI)
