The Cyclonic Storm ‘Fani’ over southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood moved northwards and lay centred over south east Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood, about 620 km east of Trincomalee
(Sri Lanka), 880 km southeast of Chennai (Tamil Nadu) and 1,050 km south-south east of Machilipatnam (Andhra Pradesh) on Monday. Met office sources said it is very likely to intensify into a Severe Cyclonic
Storm during the next 12 hours and into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm during subsequent 24 hours.
It is very likely to move northwestwards till the evening of May one and thereafter recurve north-northeastwards gradually.
Under its influence, light to moderate rain is likely to occur at many places over Tamil Nadu.
From tomorrow, thunderstorm with gusty winds (40-50 Kmph) and lightning is likely to occur at isolated places over Tamil Nadu.
Heavy rain is also likely to occur at isolated places over ghat areas of Nilgiris,
Theni, Dindigul areas of Tamil Nadu.
The forecast for Chennai city is the sky condition is likely to be partly cloudy
during the next 48 hrs.
Maximum and Minimum temperatures are likely to be around 36 and 28 deg
Celsius respectively.
Since gusty winds would prevail along the coast, fishermen were advised
not to venture into the sea for the next couple of days and those fishing in
deep seas were asked to return to the shores immediately.
