Srinagar, Jun 3 (UNI) Defence minister Rajnath Singh is arriving in Srinagar on Monday on a day-long visit to review the overall security situation in Kashmir valley and Siachen Glacier, the world’s highest battle field in Ladakh region.
Official sources said Singh, on maiden visit after assuming the charge as defence minister, will get a detailed brief about the overall security situation in the Kashmir valley at the headquarters of 15 Corps Badami Bagh Srinagar. He will be accompanied by chief of the army (CoA) General Bipin Rawat
They said Singh will be informed about the situation on the Line of Control (LoC) and the measures taken to prevent any infiltration from Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK).
He will be briefed about the recent encounters in the Kashmir valley, where over 100 militants, including some top commanders, were killed by security forces during the first five months of 2019. However, over 50 security force personnel have also lost their lives in these encounter during the period.
Singh will fly to Siachen Glacier, where he will met soldiers, who are guarding the LoC, braving weather and other odds. He will later fly back to Delhi.
This will be the first visit of Singh outside the national capital after assuming office as defence minister. (UNI)
