Uttar Pradesh agriculture department will initiate fourth session of ‘million farmer’s school’ to increase their awareness on use of advanced agricultural techniques, precise use of fertilisers after soil testing, maintain of soil health card to increase production.
Uttar Pradesh agriculture minister Surya Pratap Shahi said on Friday that fourth session of the programme will be inaugurated by chief minister Yogi Adityanath on June 9. It will be held in 15,260 village panchayats on June 10 to June 13 and June 17 to June 20 across the state, he underlined.
Mr Shahi said that previous sessions of the programme in the year 2017-18 and 2018-19 were huge success. About 15,000 workshops were organised in 2017-18 in which more than million farmers participated.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government was committed to doubling the income of farmers till 2022 and for that several initiatives were taken. He said that awareness programmes were organised in all districts and eligible farmers were benefitted with several welfare schemes. For gaining maxi mum profit from crops, farmers were motivated to know all about soil health, organic fertilizers, adequate use of fertilizers and crop insurance schemes, he pointed out.
About 9.25 per cent farmers in the state, having an average of one acre of land, belong to small and marginalised brackets. To improve their economic status, more sources of income must be explained to them for which such initiatives are very important. In the farmer’s school, the participants will get told about several government schemes, horticulture, fisheries, sericulture and sugarcane farming, including appropriate timing for sowing, irrigation and weeding.
The Uttar Pradesh government had organised and direct communication of farmers with agriculture scientists in “Conversations of farmers with scientist” programme through video conferencing on June 4. Several scientists answered questions of farmers from across the state and guided them for better farming. (UNI)
