Central govt asks CBI to start criminal prosecution against Ex-Director of NITA

The ministry of personal and public grievances has extended the powers and jurisdiction of the members of Delhi Special Police Establishment in Tripura for investigation of offences related to serious irregularities and embezzlement of funds in various civil works in National Institute of Technology Agartala (NITA) during 2008 to 2014.
Under the provision, the CBI has been entrusted to investigate against the then Director of NITA Prof P K Bose for his alleged involvement in corruption in the renovation of administrative block, construction of boys and girls hostels, workstations, electrical sub-stations and other civil constructions and in appointment of various posts by misusing official powers and positions.

The CBI has also been asked to launch criminal prosecution against Prof Bose and other guilty persons. Earlier, based on an FIR with local police station, CID had carried out investigation into the corruption charges and prima facie the allegations were established. Accordingly, the matter was intimated to Ministry of Personal and Public Grievances in December 2017 and now it has been referred to CBI.

Besides, misappropriation of public funds meant for infrastructure development and procurement of furniture, there was the allegation of huge transaction of money for appointment of both under qualified teaching faculty and non-teaching staff at the behest of some local leaders of the then ruling CPI-M party.

The similar allegations of corruption was meted out against Tripura University during the tenure of Prof A K Ghosh that included illegal appointments, contracts, procurement of e-books and construction of buildings.
