About 30 per cent members, including the Project Director and the Mission Director of the Team Chandrayaan-2, which will be launched on Monday afternoon, are women. ISRO sources said the Project Director is M.Vanitha, an electronics systems engineer. Vanitha, who was responsible for data handling systems for India’s remote sensing satellites, was initially reluctant to accept this historical responsibility. But agreed later, after the then ISRO Satellite Centre Director M Annadurai persuaded her. The Mission Director is Ritu Karidhal, a Master’s degree holder in Aerospace Engineering from Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru.
