In consideration of the prevailing situation, the proposed visit of Dr Nand Kumar Sai, Chairperson, National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) along with a team of Commission, is deferred.
The visit was planned on July 22 in the wake of killing of 10 people belonging to Scheduled Tribes over a land dispute in Umbha village of Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh. Now, the visit stands cancel, the
Ministry of Tribal Affairs said in New Delhi on Sunday.
On Friday Ministry of Tribal Affairs had said that an NCST team, comprising Dr Nand Kumar Sai, Chairperson, Maya Chintamn Ivnate, Member, S K Ratho, Joint Secretary and RK Dubey, Assistant Director, will visit Umbha village.
And keeping in view of the seriousness of the incident, the Commission issued notices to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, UP and District Collector and SP of Sonbhadra District to send factual and action taken report in the matter, it said.
It had earlier also decided to visit the place of incident, meet the family members of deceased and injured persons and to hold meeting with the Administrative and Police officers in the district.
On July 18, ten people belonging to Scheduled Tribes were killed and several injured over a land dispute in Umbha village of Sonbhadra.
