Indian badminton player Sai Praneeth progressed to second round after beating Japan’s Kenta Nishimoto in the opening match of the Daihatsu Yonex Japan Open here on Tuesday.
After missing the last edition of this tournament Praneeth went on to edge out Nishimoto in straight sets 21-17, 21-13 finishing the game in 41 minutes.
Meanwhile, in the mixed doubles Ashwini Ponappa and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy didn’t had to sweat much as Indian pair eased to round two beating Marvin Seidel and Linda Efler of Germany 21-14, 21-19 wrapping the game in 32 minutes.
The men’s doubles pair of Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy failed to carry the winning momentum as they lost to Malaysian pair Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin 12-21, 16-21 ending the match in 27 minutes.
P V Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth will play their opening match on Wednesday taking China’s Yue Han and compatriot H S Prannoy.
Sameer Verma will take on Denmark’s Anders Antonsen in his opening match. UNI
