The Supreme Court on Tuesday extended to August 31 the deadline for final publication of National Register for Citizens in Assam. It, however, rejected the plea of Union of India and Assam Government for 20 % sample re-verification of those included and excluded from the NRC.
The bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, extended the deadline from July 31, to August 31, 2019, of publication of the NCR list. “We are extending the deadline of the publication of the NRC list from July 31 to August 31,” the bench ruled. It set August 7 for further hearing. (UNI)
