Situation in Marathwada continues to be gloomy with the region still being rain-deficient reeling under drought-like conditions.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a total of 779 mm rainfall is expected during the entire monsoon period in the region, but so far, only 299 mm average rainfall has been recorded in the eight Marathwada districts, which is 66 per cent of expected rainfall and 38 per cent of annual rainfall, said an official.
Beed, Latur, Osmanabad, Jalna and Parbhani districts witnessed low rainfall in the two-and-a-half month period of monsoon, while situation in Aurangabad, Nanded and Hingoli districts is better.
Beed is the most affected district across the region which has, so far, received only 160 mm rainfall and a number of villages still getting water through 700 water tankers.
Heavy to very heavy rain is required for the revival of the dams as seven major irrigation dam of the state still in minus level.
Districts wise rainfall recorded since June 1 in Nanded 470 mm, Hingoli 383 mm, Aurangabad 314 mm, Parbhani 275 mm, Latur and Jalna 271 mm each, Osmanabad 245 mm and Beed 160 mm.
