Senior journalist and Editor of language daily Sambad’s editorial page Ranjit Guru passed away following illness late last night. He was 61.
Mr Guru was admitted to a private hospital in the city fortnight back and breathed his last while undergoing treatment following an infection leading to pneumonia.
Mr Guru started his career in journalism as correspondent of Sambalpur for the language daily Sambad after completing his post graduation and M Phil degree and during his three decades long career in the journalism he was elevated to the rank of editor and looking after the editorial page of
“Sambad.”
Rich tribute was paid at the Sambad bhawan here where he had worked for long 30 years. The staff members of Sambad group, Kanak News, Odisha Sun Times and Radio Choklate paid their last tribute to the departed soul.
Sambad Editor and BJD MLA Somuyaranjan Patnaik condoled the demise of Mr Guru describing him as the pillar of sambad.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also condoled the death of Mr Guru. Taking to his micro blogging tweeter account, Mr Patnaik said he was saddened with the death of columnist and journalist Ranjit Guru.
The Chief Minister said, Mr Guru has created a special identity through his writings on several issues in his column ”Aprasang.” He conveyed his heart felt condolence to the bereaved family members.
Several political leaders and journalists of the state have also expressed their profound grief at the passing away of Mr Guru and offered tributes to the departed soul.
Mr Guru is survived by wife and a daughter.
