Imran says “no point talking” to India: New Delhi affirms Pakistan must take action on terror

In response to consistent India’s stance that terror and talks cannot go together, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has sought dismiss the possibilities of future dialogue between the two South Asian neighbours and asserted that there was “no point” in talking.

‘There is no point in talking to them. I mean, I have done all the talking. Unfortunately, now when I look back, all the overtures that I was making for peace and dialogue, I think they took it for appeasement,’ Mr Khan has been quoted as saying by ‘The New York Times’.

“There is nothing more that we can do,” said the former cricket icon in an interview with the NYT  at Khan’s office in Islamabad.  The paper also reported that there was no immediate comment from the Indian government on Mr Khan’s remarks.

However, India’s envoy to the United States, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, has been also quoted in the same report. ‘Our experience has been that every time we have taken an initiative toward peace, it has turned out badly for us…..We expect Pakistan to take credible, irreversible and verifiable action against terrorism,” the ambassador said.

It may be mentioned that Pakistan recently failed to get United Nations Security Council ‘censure’ against India after the Modi government adopted new measures vis-a-vis Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the state into two Union Territories for better governance.
