Leaders of Opposition & press got taste of brute force used on J&K people: Rahul

A day after Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, along with other Opposition leaders was stopped from visiting Srinagar, the former Congress president on Sunday said Leaders of the Opposition and Press ‘’got a taste of the draconian administration and brute force unleashed on the people of Jammu and Kashmir.’’

Taking to Twitter, Mr Gandhi said, ‘’It’s been 20 days since the people of Jammu & Kashmir had their freedom & civil liberties curtailed.’’

‘’Leaders of the Opposition &the Press got a taste of the draconian administration and brute force unleashed on the people of J&K when we tried to visit Srinagar yesterday,’’ he added.

A delegation of 12 Opposition leaders from nine political parties, including former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, had to return to the national capital on Saturday from Srinagar Airport as opposition leaders were not allowed to visit Kashmir.

But, they submitted a memorandum to the District Magistrate Budgam saying they were in the Valley on public invitation by the Governor.

They also described their detention as “undemocratic and unconstitutional”.

Mr Gandhi said he was ready to go to meet the people alone if Section 144 was in place.
