In an attempt to find an amicable solution to the vexed Mahadayi river water sharing issue, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has plans to meet his Goa counterpart Pramod Sawant next week. Speaking to newsmen here on Tuesday, Yediyurappa said that “We have sought an appointment with the Goa Chief Minister to visit Goa and discuss the sharing of Mahadayi water issue”.
Stating that he already had held an one-on-one meeting with the Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Phadnavis recently, he said that “I have plans to visit Goa on September 16 and 17 to hold talks with Sawant”. Expressing regret over an incident in which a 5-year-old boy died in a relief camp at Sureban in Ramadurga taluk, in Belagavi District, Yediyurappa announced a cash compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the next to the kin of the deceased. “I will also meet the relief camp, where the boy died” he added. The Chief Minister also instructed the district administration to send a report on the circumstances which led to the death of the boy. (UNI)
