The city police arrested the main accused involved in the explosion of crackers in a vacant plot at Swami Mohan Das Nagar on the Diwali night here.
Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar told the media on Monday that the culprit Gurdeep Singh alias Gora was arrested from the Maksudan Modd.
According to him, during preliminary interrogation the alleged accused revealed that he had dumped the explosive material (potash and pallet like structures) used in the manufacturing of toy pistols, which have a heavy demand during the festive days especially on the occasion of Diwali as the children were fond of toy pistols.
The Commissioner further revealed that the accused brought the explosive material from Ludhiana for Rs 70,000 and had to dump the same at the vacant plot fearing arrest for not having any license for selling crackers.
Mr Bhullar added that a manhunt for the other accomplice, Harjinder Singh alias Jindi was being launched and he would be nabbed soon.
