New Delhi, Jan 24 : The Delhi Police Crime Branch, which took over the Jamia Millia Islamia violence case, will question former Congress MLA Asif Mohd Khan in connection with the case and asked him to appear before it on Friday.
A notice has been issued to Khan under Section 160 of CrPC asking him to reach Chanakyapuri office of the Crime Branch on Friday.
Khan has been named an accused in the FIR filed by the Delhi Police in connection with the violence which took place near the Jamia Millia Islamia on December 15.
According to the Delhi Police officials, a notice has also been issued to local political leader Ashu Khan in connection with the Jamia Nagar violence asking him to appear for the questioning on Friday itself.
Besides former Congress MLA Asif Mohd Khan and Ashu Khan, Mustafa, Haider, Chandan Kumar, Asif Tanha and Kasim Usmani have also been made accused in the case.
Several buses were torched and stones were pelted on the police personnel during the protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the area.
The police resorted to lathicharge and fired tear gas shells to contain the violence, in which several students were also injured. The police action was condemned by several political leaders.
