Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Friday dissolved the governing bodies or managing committees of all non-government aided degree colleges with immediate effect.
The move came a day after Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo announced that no politician or local MLA will be a member of the college governing bodies, and only educationists, parents and former students will be nominated to these committees.
The governing bodies or managing committees of all non-government aided degree colleges have been dissolved except of the autonomous colleges and colleges established by minority communities, said a notification issued by the Higher Education Department.
According to the notification, the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) of the district concerned will act as President of the managing committee where the college is situated at the district headquarters.
In case of any district having more than one ADM, the District Collector shall nominate one ADM to act as President of the governing body, the notification said.
Where the college is situated outside the district headquarters, the sub-collector of the sub-division concerned will act as the President, said the notification.
