It seems time has passed when counseling and motivation were being used as the tools to ensure distancing in day to day life when Corona stares at all of us.
Looking back at what has transpired in Bhubaneswar and few other parts in Odisha, for violators there is only one prescription and that is, stringent actions under the law.
In these columns, it was advocated that, the police should not resort to physical punishment for violators like shaming them with sit-ups or push-ups or similar such methods to ensure cooperation.
But, such methods have failed to inject wisdom into such people that, they are paving the ways when Odisha quickly joins the league with other states where the virus has already made deeper footprints that the governments find hard to erase.
Odisha has already earned the 19th position in the ranking among the COVID-struck states and with three areas now under cluster containment, people’s self-restraint is the only answer.
Which still seems missing and people who indulge in violations, are doing that at their own peril and blighting the others as well.
If such violators have been given a dressing down by the police then, it appears to be an extreme alternative left to discipline such elements.
No candle or lamp or clapping serve as mental synergy for them to fight the virus.
