Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday indicated that the lockdown can be extended in the state and a decision will be taken after assessing the Covid-19 situation.
In a video statement to a question over if the state government was planning to extend the lockdown in the state, Chouhan said: “The lives of people are more important, a decision will taken after assessment of the situation.”
“We will bear the pain of lockdown and also take care of the economy later but if the people die, then we cannot bring their lives back,” he said.
Chouhan also said that looking at the present situation in Bhopal and Indore, “we need to stay more alert and take precautions”.
“And if required it (lockdown) will be extended. Lives of people is of utmost important to me and will decide on it (lockdown) looking after the situation,” he added.
His remarks came amid the number of Covid-19 cases increasing in India. On Tuesday, the total number of Covid patients in India rose to 4,421 with 114 deaths across the country.
