Member of Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR), Anurag Kundu on Thursday called for an urgent need to monitor and identify symptoms which compel students from Economically weaker sections to leave private schools.
Addressing the audience at an interactive session on ‘A Day on Social Inclusion’, Panellists— Newslaundry Writer Nirupama Sekhri along with IIMA Professor Ankur Sarin, Mr Kundu said,” there is an urgent need to monitor and identify the symptoms which compels the EWS students to leave private schools.”
“At the same time, the government can play an important role in incentivising the achievements of the students to help them break out of their shells,” he added.
Anurag Kundu spoke on Section 12(1)(c) of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act.
Criticising the old-age teaching methods of Indian schools, writer Sekhri said, “CBSE is not rocket science and if students are failing to read their own textbooks, then it is entirely the fault of service providers.”
Budget expenditure of the centrally-sponsored schemes, which currently covers all school children studying in Classes I-VIII of government and government aided schools, was recently increased to Rs 12,054 crore for the year 2019-20. (UNI)
