The Indian health care system lack sufficient infrastructure to meet the health care demands of the country, said EY, the leading global professional services organisation, in its report released at the 3-day inaugural function of 16th edition of BioAsia 2019 here.
The country is currently facing two major burdens – the rising prevalence of lifestyle related diseases and an aging population.
As per India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF) estimates, the respective ten-year CAGR( Compound annual growth rate) of hospitalised cases from 2008 till 2018 for cardiac diseases, oncology and diabetes are 18 per cent, 16 per cent and 19 per cent respectively, it said on Monday.
These factors, along with a rising population, are all leading to rising demand of specialised health care in India.
Looking at the current health care trans and an increasing need for specialised care, the challenges pertaining to health care infrastructure int eh country are further expected to escalate and it is expected that India will require 2.07 million more doctors by 2030 besides needs an additional three million beds to achieve the target of three beds per 1,000 people by 2025, the report revealed.
Lack of sufficient health care infrastructure has led to a supply-demand imbalance in the country making health care less affordable and accessible for all , the report pointed out. (UNI)
