No code violation in Rahul's interaction with college students, but EC seeks 'further report' on contents of speech

Tamil Nadu chief electoral officer Satyabrata Sahoo on Thursday said he has asked a report on the contents of speech made by Congress President Rahul Gandhi during an interaction with women college students, though his meeting was not violative of the Model Code of Conduct for the April 18 Lok Sabha polls.

Gandhi held an interaction meeting with the students of Stella Marys College for Women before kick-starting his election campaign on March 13, during which he spoke and answered wide range of issues, including the Rafale aircraft deal and his hugging Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament.

Talking to reporters in Chennai, Sahoo said that the district electoral officer (DEO) had said that the meeting did not violate the election code as prior permission was obtained by the college for it. However, he said has sought “further information” on Gandhi’s speech.

He said he has sought a report from the DEO on the content of the speech made by Gandhi. (UNI)
