Odisha joins nation celebrating 150th birth anniversary of Gandhiji, bans single use of plastic

The 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation, was celebrated across with much reverence and respect across Odisha
today.

Ram dhun, prayer meetings, padayatra, photo exhibitions, meetings, discussions,
animated sand shows, human chains marked the celebration organised by various
government departments, government and private organisations, educational
institutions .

Odisha government also chose the day to launch new programmes like ‘’Mo sarkar’’
and took a policy decision to ban single use of plastics in all urban areas of the state
from today

Deputy Speaker Rajani Kanta Singh paid their homage to Bapu in a function organsied
inside the premises of Odisha State Assembly to celebrate the Gandhi Jayanti
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today launched a padayatra in Kargil road in
Bhubaneswar.

The state Information and Public Relations Department and the Odia Language,
literature and Culture department organized a human chain, ram dhun sankirtan
padayatra, prayer meetings, artists camp and a photo exhibition to celebrate the
150th birth anniversary of Gandhiji.

Official sources said around 4,000 students participated in the human chain that
started from Acharya Vihar at 0630AM to Biju Patnaik International Airport.
The Information and Public Relations department also organised a photo exhibition
on Gandhiji.

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched the ‘’ Mo Sarkar’’ programme today
with an objective to make the administration more people oriented.
Mr Patnaik had announced the Mo Sarakar Programme on August 15 last after he
came to power for the fifth time in a row .

As per the programme the Chief Minister himself interacted with people going to the
Police station to lodge their complaints and people visiting the hospital. (UNI)
