PM Modi in Manipur: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Saturday emphasized that peace is the foundation of development, stating that many long-standing conflicts and disputes in the North East have been resolved over the past eleven years.
Addressing a public gathering at Peace Ground in Churachandpur district during his one-day visit to Manipur, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stones of multiple projects worth ₹7,300 crore across the State. He described Manipur as a “soil of hope and aspiration” and expressed confidence that a new dawn of peace and trust is emerging in the region.
Referring to the recent dialogues with various groups in the hills and valley regions, Shri Modi said the Government of India’s approach is centered on dialogue, respect, and mutual understanding. Appealing to all organisations to move forward on the path of peace, he assured full support, declaring that “the Government of India stands with Manipur.”
Highlighting the Centre’s focus on infrastructure, the Prime Minister said since 2014, efforts have been made to strengthen connectivity in the border State. He informed that ₹3,700 crore has already been spent on National Highways, while new highway projects worth ₹8,700 crore are underway. The government is also investing ₹22,000 crore in the Jiribam–Imphal railway line, besides constructing the new Imphal Airport at a cost of ₹400 crore and launching helicopter services to improve regional connectivity.
On welfare initiatives, Shri Modi said that under the Har Ghar Nal Se Jal Scheme, more than 3.5 lakh households in Manipur have been provided with piped water connections. He further stated that nearly 2.5 lakh patients in the State have availed free treatment under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme.
He also underlined that development of tribal communities is a national priority, pointing to the Dharati Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan, which is driving development in over 500 villages across Manipur.
The projects launched today include road and drainage upgrades, strengthening of schools, health care facilities, a power plant, construction of a multipurpose indoor stadium, and upgradation of National Highways 102A and 202, among others.
