Ranchi, May 8 (UNI) Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and senior Congressman Gulam Nabi Azad today said the BJP or Mr Modi were not coming back to power at any cost.
Addressing a press conference at the Jharkhand Congress office, Mr Azad said his observation was based on his travels and interactions with the people across the country during the current election season.
He said all sections of the society were against the Prime Minister, whether the farmers, workers, youth or women. All of them were full of anger as Mr Modi did not fulfill any one of his promises, Mr Azad said.
He said that Prime Minister Modi had promised to provide 10 crore jobs in five years but ended up killing employment with demonetisation and wrong implementation of the GST.
He said the pre-mature implementation of GST led to the closure of 40,000-50,000 small and medium industries and 4.73 crore people became jobless. Overall 25 crore people were impacted in the exercise and these people will never vote for Modi, he claimed.
He said thousands of farmers across the country committed suicide due to the wrong policies of Mr Modi, but he did not bother to fulfill any of the promises which he had made to them.
Mr Azad said that Prime Minister Modi had coined the slogan “Beti Padhao Beti Bachao” but he did nothing for the education of the girls and for their protection. He alleged that the rape of minor girls was at an all time high in the country.
Reacting to Mr Modi’s recent swipe at Congress chief Rahul Gandhi in which he called late Prime minister Rajiv Gandhi “corrupt no. 1” allegedly for taking huge kick-backs in Bofors deal, Mr Azad said such comments were unfortunate.
He said Gandhi family has made many sacrifices and the entire country is aware of that. The veteran Congress leaders said that the Prime Minister has stooped to a new low by dragging the name of a dead person.
The former Union minister said that after the election the non-NDA and non-BJP supporting parties and their leaders, including Mamta Bannerjee and Mayawati will come together to support a secular front at the Centre.
