Priyanka reaches Varanasi on way to Sonebhadra

Congress general secretary (Uttar Pradesh) Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reached Varanasi on her way to Umbha village in Sonebhadra district in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday where 10 tribals were killed in June last in a land dispute case. Priyanka would go to Sonebhadra by car from Varanasi airport and will meet family members of the victims. She is expected to return Varanasi in the evening to fly back to New Delhi.

The state government has made elaborate security arrangements on her visit to Sonebhadra. This would be second time that Priyanka would be trying to visit Sonebhadra.  After the firing incident on June 17, Priyanka went to Sonebhadra but was detained by UP government and was in custody at Chunar guest house for around 26 hours over imposition of section 144 of the CrPC in the village.

She sat on Dharna and only withdrew it when the family members of the victim met the Congress leader. Later Priyanka announced Rs 10 lakh each to the family of the deceased tribals. Priyanka would be accompanied by senior party leaders of UP and some leaders of the Delhi too during her Sonebhadra visit. (UNI)
