The sick toll in the Ammonia plant blast rises to 74

The number of labours, majority of them women, who took ill following the Ammonia gas leak in a Marine fish storage plant, in Kundapur, on Monday, has increased to 74 and admitted into the State run hospital in the town.

According to official sources, the Liquid Ammonia, used to freeze ice blocks, exploded suddenly and labours working in the plant fell ill. The Sub-divisional officer of the Kundapur, Madhukeshwar and Tippeswamy, the Tahsildar visited the hospital and inquired about the health condition of those admitted.

The villagers, who had strongly opposed setting up of the a life hazardous unit, are likely to bring pressure on the local administration following yesterday’s incident.
