At least 1.50 crore people affected and five lakh houses damaged by Cyclone Fani

At least 1.50 crore people have been affected by Cyclone Fani and over five lakh houses damaged till now, officials said on Wednesday.

According to reports, livestock and poultry casualty have been pegged at 21,76,998 and 21,00,075 respectively. The casualties also include 737 large and 778 small animals. The extent of damage of trees and crops has not yet fully.

According to government communication, supply of electricity in Bhubaneswar will be resumed fully by May 12. It added that by May 10, 80 per cent of the city will get electricity. But considering the extensive damage in Puri, it will take at least a month to resume electric supply there, it said.

The district administration of Cuttack said that the water supply in the Cuttack city area has become normal.

Government officials said that they had been in talks with telecom operators to resume mobile services in Bhubaneswar, Puri, Cuttack.

Cabinet secretary Pradip Kumar Sinha on Wednesday held video conference with Odisha chief secretary A.P.Padhi and home secretary Asit Tripathy regarding the progress in resuming water supply, electricity and telecommunication services. Tripathy informed at till now Bhubaneswar and Khurda have got 29 per cent, while Puri nine per cent and Cuttack 35 per cent mobile network.
