Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy has declined to step down saying that the situation has not arisen for any resignation. He expressed hope that the government can overcome the crisis and said that the alliance can survive the ‘ rebel scare’ it is facing since one week. He said while talking to reporters in Bengaluru after holding a meeting with the top leaders of the alliance adding that those who had resigned will withdraw the resignations.
Karnataka Law minister Krishna Byre Gowda exuded confidence that the 13-month-old JD(S)-Congress government would come out from its present crisis and survive the present crisis.
The JD(S)-Congress government is maneouring a slippery wicket after 16 ruling party MLAs had tendered their resignations to their seats during last one week and the matter even entered the Supreme Court pedestals today.
In an informal chat with the newsmen in Bengaluru the minister said that the Cabinet which met here on Thursday, Byregowda said the Cabinet discussed about the imminent political crisis, triggered by the resignations of several Congress and the JD(S) MLAs and threat to the stability to the government.
“After discussing in length over the political situation, it was resolved that the coalition parties should remain united and save the government, and we will prevail”, the minister said.
Maintaining that efforts are being made to reach out to the rebel MLAs, and convince them to bring them to the fold of the government again, he said that “I see a ray of hope over the future of the coalition government”.
He said that “Government will prove majority if it was challenged by the Opposition BJP in the floor of the house, which starts from Tomorrow.’’
Replying to questions, the minister denied that Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala had issued any directions to the Chief Secretary, Vijayabhaskar, instructing him to see that Government will not take any major policy decisions.
“As for as I am concerned I am not aware of such directions given by the Governor” he said.
“In today’s meeting Vijaya Bhaskar was present and at no point had brought up such issue before the cabinet” he said.
