(UNI) Delhi High Court on Monday refused to entertain a plea seeking ban on the trailer of the movie “The Accidental Prime Minister”.
Justice Vibhu Bakhru after observing the submission on behalf of the petitioner Pooja Mahajan, a Delhi-based fashion designer, said that the petitioner has no personal interest in the matter.
The court further directed to petitioner to change the petition to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) as the movie involves the office of the Prime Minister.
It has submitted that the film is based on a similarly titled book by Sanjaya Baru, the erstwhile media advisor of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The petetion further submitted that producers of the film have not taken any consent from Congress President Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh to perform their characters or perform their political life or to dress up in the same way as they had been doing in their normal life or copy their voice in any manner.
It is submitted on behalf of the petitioner that as per Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) guidelines on films based on real life characters, a ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) is required, but for the trailer, no such NOC was obtained.
Petitioner also requested to the Court to issue direction to the Centre, Google, YouTube and CBFC to take steps to stop the exhibition and display of the trailer.
