World Buddhist Conference: The Buddhist pilgrimage sites of Udayagiri and Ratnagiri in Odisha’s Jajpur district have become a hub of prayers and chants for world peace, led by Buddhist devotees and monks. With messages of love, compassion, and reverence, prayers are being offered to Lord Buddha for global harmony.
Around 1,500 Buddhist devotees and monks from 17 countries have gathered at this event, inspired by the teachings of Gautama Buddha and enchanted by Odisha’s rich Buddhist heritage and cultural legacy.
The Buddhist conference, which commenced on the 12th, is being held for the first time in honor of Guru Padmasambhava, widely revered as the second Buddha. Organized by the International Buddhist Foundation and the Udayagiri Buddha Mahotsav Committee, the conference highlights the historical significance of Udayagiri, where Guru Padmasambhava is believed to have attained nirvana. This sacred site, where Buddha spent part of his life, has been chosen to host the event.
There is a growing demand to recognize Udayagiri, Ratnagiri, and Lalitagiri as UNESCO World Heritage Sites due to their immense historical and spiritual importance. The primary goal of the conference is to spread Buddha’s teachings and messages of peace, love, and compassion while raising awareness about Buddhist philosophy among people.
Efforts are also underway to elevate the global recognition of Udayagiri, Ratnagiri, and Lalitagiri as significant Buddhist heritage sites. This conference is a step toward showcasing Odisha’s Buddhist treasures on the world stage.
