AIIMS Bhubaneswar Celebrates 11th International Day of Yoga with Spirited Fervor

AIIMS Bhubaneswar celebrated the 11th International Day of Yoga with great enthusiasm and participation. The celebration organised by the Department of AYUSH, was held under the global theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” highlighting the institute’s commitment to promoting holistic health through the integration of traditional yogic wisdom and modern medical science.
On this occasion, Executive Director Dr. Ashutosh Biswas emphasized the institute’s ongoing efforts in integrating yoga-based interventions into mainstream healthcare. “AIIMS Bhubaneswar is actively engaged in collaborative research, clinical services, and community outreach to explore the therapeutic potential of yoga across various medical disciplines,” said Dr. Biswas. He also shared that several interdisciplinary research projects on yoga are underway, with some nearing completion.
The special yoga session organized to mark the day was graced by Shri Vijay Nehra, IAS, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. The event also saw the presence of Medical Superintendent Dr. Dillip Kumar Parida, DDA Lt. Col. Abhijit Sarkar, HOD/AYUSH & SMO Dr. Prasant Kumar Sahoo, along with faculty members, MBBS, Nursing, and Para-medical students, staff, and general public. The session was led by Yoga Instructor Santosh Kumar Sahu, who demonstrated and guided participants through various yogic practices.
AIIMS Bhubaneswar, through its Department of AYUSH, runs a dedicated Yoga OPD from Monday to Saturday, offering therapeutic yoga sessions for patients referred from AYUSH as well as other specialty departments. These sessions are particularly beneficial for departments like Obstetrics & Gynecology, Surgical Gastroenterology, and Psychiatry. The institute also conducts traditional Shatkarma (yogic cleansing) practices regularly at the AYUSH block.
The AYUSH Department organizes periodic yoga awareness and outreach programs in collaboration with other departments to foster holistic well-being in the community. A daily morning yoga session from 6:00 AM to 7:00 AM is also held at the AYUSH building and is open to all interested participants.
AIIMS Bhubaneswar continues to make significant strides in integrating yoga into the public healthcare system, aligning with India’s vision of One Earth, One Health and promoting sustainable, inclusive wellness practices.
