Renewable Energy Summit

Renewable Energy Summit: Odisha has attracted prospective investment proposals worth approximately ₹1,17,557 crore through 18 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), representing a tentative capacity addition of around 11,742 MW across renewable energy and emerging clean-energy sectors at the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026, held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

The proposed investments span pumped storage, solar, wind, hybrid renewable energy, battery storage, green hydrogen, green data centres and other emerging technologies.

Expressing happiness over these huge interests for investments in Odisha, CM Shri Mohan Charan Majhi described it as a watershed moment in state’s endeavour for transition to clean energy. He further said that Odisha is ready to significantly contribute to PM’s ambition to make India Atmanirbhar in clean energy.

The MoUs were exchanged following the inauguration of the Odisha Pavilion by Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, Chief Minister of Odisha, and Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha. The two dignitaries also inaugurated the Netherlands Pavilion. Dr. Satya Priya Rath, Managing Director, GRIDCO Limited, exchanged the MoUs with the respective industry partners in their presence. The event was followed by the Odisha State Plenary on “Investment Opportunities in the Renewable Energy Sector in Odisha”, which witnessed participation from over 900 delegates.

In a significant step towards strengthening institutional cooperation and advancing clean-energy innovation, Energy Department, Govt. of Odisha signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hinduja Renewables Energy Pvt. Ltd., Renew Green, Shivalaya Construction Limited, Suzlon Renewable Development Limited, MeghaMani Renew Energy Pvt. Ltd., Evergreen Renewables pvt Ltd, Datta Power Infra Private Limited, CD Hydro, GSP Infra, VIRUDHAKA RENEWABLE ENERGY PRIVATE LIMITED, MACLEC Technical Project Laboratory Private Limited, Fenice Hydrogen, Ravi Renewables Private limited, XPERTNEST and India Energy Storage Alliance(IESA).

On this occasion, GRIDCO Limited, Odisha, also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre for Mission on Energy Transition (CMET), anchored at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT), Bhopal; Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (MPUVNL); and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar during the Odisha State Plenary Session at Bharat Renewable Energy Summit 2026.

The MoU aims to establish a broad framework for academic, technical, research and institutional collaboration between the Governments of Odisha and Madhya Pradesh, focusing on accelerating the clean-energy transition, renewable energy integration, grid modernisation and the adoption of emerging power-system technologies. The collaboration is expected to facilitate knowledge exchange, research partnerships and capacity building, while strengthening institutional capabilities to address the evolving requirements of the power sector.

The plenary was attended by Shri Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Government of India; Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, Chief Minister of Odisha; Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, Deputy Chief Minister of Odisha; Shri Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India; and Shri Vishal Dev, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Energy Department, Government of Odisha.

Addressing the plenary, Union Minister Shri Pralhad Joshi highlighted Odisha’s strategic importance in India’s clean-energy transition, recognising its abundant natural resources, strong industrial base and strategic port infrastructure as key advantages for attracting investment. He emphasised the immense opportunities in renewable energy, energy storage, floating solar, wind power, green hydrogen and green ammonia. He also highlighted the Central Government’s policy initiatives and support mechanisms to accelerate investment in these sectors, underscoring the importance of collaboration between the Centre, State Governments and industry in advancing India’s clean-energy ambitions.

The Chief Minister presented Odisha’s long-term vision of becoming a leading clean-energy destination and one of India’s top five power-exporting States. Declaring that “Odisha is open for business and ready for clean energy investment,” he outlined the State’s ambition to source 74 per cent of its installed power capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2047 and emerge as the clean-energy engine of eastern India. He also emphasised the vision of meeting at least 33 per cent of industrial electricity consumption through green power at competitive tariffs.

Reassuring investors of the State Government’s commitment, the Chief Minister highlighted three key priorities: a stable and predictable policy framework, time-bound approvals through the single-window mechanism, and strengthening transmission infrastructure ahead of generation. He also highlighted the ₹15,948 crore sanctioned under the Mukhya Mantri Shakti Bikash Yojana for modernising and expanding the State’s power transmission network. Odisha’s industrial ecosystem, renewable energy potential and strategic ports at Paradip, Dhamra and Gopalpur, he emphasised, offer significant opportunities for investment in clean energy and green hydrogen.

Inviting investors to setup clean energy plants in Odisha, the CM highlighted state’s policy stability, time-bound clearance through single window and strengthening of state’s power infrastructure before they start production. He said that the state is investing ₹15,948 Crore for expansion of  power transmission network under Mukhyamantri Shakti Vikas Yojana. He further said that the industrial ecosystem for production and export of green energy at various port sites such as Paradeep, Gopalpur & Dhamra is excellent.

Deputy Chief Minister Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo highlighted the State’s strong power-sector performance, noting that Odisha had met a peak demand of approximately 6,242 MW during the summer without scheduled load shedding. He also outlined the State’s substantial potential in pumped storage, floating solar and wind energy, along with its initiatives to develop green hydrogen and ammonia hubs at Gopalpur and Paradip.

Shri Santosh Kumar Sarangi, Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, highlighted Odisha’s target of achieving 10.96 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030 under the Odisha Renewable Energy Policy, 2022. He also noted that the State had achieved an installed renewable energy capacity of 3,641.23 MW as of 30 September 2026. Shri Vishal Dev, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Energy Department, outlined the State’s policy framework, project approvals and investment opportunities, including the development of pumped storage, floating solar and battery energy storage projects.

The participation of leading companies and investors, including NLC India, Adani Ports and SEZ, Avaada Group, Greenko Group, ACME Group, Evren and Brookfield Renewables, reflected the growing interest in Odisha’s clean-energy sector.

The prospective investment proposals from 18 industry partners, representing a tentative capacity addition of 11,742 MW and an estimated investment of ₹1,17,557 crore, mark a significant milestone in advancing Odisha’s renewable energy ambitions. Through its participation as a Partner State at the Summit, Odisha reaffirmed its commitment to building a robust clean-energy ecosystem, strengthening industrial competitiveness and contributing to India’s energy transition.
