Congress general secretary of Uttar Pradesh-East Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ‘ignoring’ his constituency Varanasi for the ‘sake’ of making foreign trips.
“The Prime Minister has time to travel the world, from US to Japan, China to Africa, but he doesn’t have time for his own people. This shows the mindset of our PM and his party. They work only for the benefit of a handful of businessmen and industrialists, but not for the poor, the needy and the farmers,” Ms Gandhi alleged while speaking to mediapersons during her roadshow here.
The Congress leader claimed that during her visit to Varanasi, she got know from the people that ‘no’ development took place in the holy city.
“It surprised me. I thought Mr Modi must have done something in his constituency. He visited the whole world and hugged everyone, but didn’t hug his own people,” she alleged.
Continuing her tirade against Mr Modi, Ms Gandhi, during her street corner meeting here, said that BJP was a ‘janata-virodhi’ (anti-people) and ‘kisan-virodhi’ (anti-farmer) party.
“So many people from Uttar Pradesh come to me everyday and talk about that sad state of affairs in their sate,” she claimed.
Ms Gandhi further said that ruling party was ‘serving’ only industrialists and ‘overlooking’ the farmers and the poor.
The Congress leader is on a three-day visit to UP. She is holding a 50-km roadshow in Faizabad-Ayodhya, which will be ending this evening.
This is her second tour to the state, with the first being the Ganga Yatra from Prayagraj to Varanasi.
During the road show, senior UP Congress leaders including Pramod Tiwari, his daughter Aradhana Mishra along with Rae Bareli MLA Aditi Singh, Faizabad Congress candidate and former UP state president Nirmal Khatri were also present. (UNI)
