Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) Candiate Dr Shashi Tharoor, contesting from Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha Constituency, sustained injury on his head while performing ‘Thulabharam’ at a temple on Monday.
Mr Tharoor sustained injury in Gandhari Amman temple here leading to the cancellation of his election campaign, party sources said.
He was injured when the iron rod of a balance in which he was sitting broke down. The rod fell on his head causing injury, sources added.
Tharoor was rushed to the General Hospital, from where he was referred to the Medical College hospital.
The condition of Congress leader is out of danger and he has received 11 stitches on his head.
Thulabharam is a practice in temples where a devotee sits on a pan of the weighing balance and the other pan is filled with materials like sugar, jaggery or coins, greater than the weight of the devotee.
