Rahul Gandhi's nomination for Amethi LS seat found valid; DM court rejects all 'Raul Vinci' objections

Rejecting all objections raised over Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s nomination from Amethi alleging discrepancies over citizenship and educational qualifications in his election affidavit, the Returning Officer on Monday announced that the documents are valid.

Four independent candidates- Dhrublal along with Afzal, Suresh Chandra and Suresh Kumar from Amethi Lok Sabha seat have challenged it over his education qualification and nationality during the scrutiny of the papers last Saturday.
They demanded that the nomination papers of Rahul Gandhi should be rejected.

Returning Officer Dr Ram Manohar Mishra, who had postponed the matter till Monday morning, had said that the counsel Rahul Kaushik, representing the Congress president sought time to reply.

Dr Mishra on Monday after hearing the counsel of Rahul Gandhi and others , for around two hours, rejected the objections raised by the independent candidates and termed the nomination papers of the Congress president as valid.

Gandhi’s lawyer KC Kaushik was present in the court to argue on his client’s behalf. On the objections raised over Gandhi’s nationality, Kaushik said that Gandhi was born in India and he holds an Indian passport, he never took citizenship of any other country. His passport, Voter-ID, and his income tax, everything is of India. “
I don’t know who Raul Vinci is or where he came from. Rahul Gandhi had done his M Phil in 1995 from University of Cambridge, I have attached a copy of the certificate,” he added. (UNI)
